Weird Words part 6 – Desiderium

Welcome to another Weird Word post as part of my Creative Coping Strategies campaign.

This time I’ve researched a word that is apparantly still used commonly, but I’ve never heard it before!

This is a word that is deliberately used at a time when our nation (and much of the world) has been in a period of mourning following the death of The Queen.

Desiderium

an ardent desire or longing

especially a feeling of loss or grief for something lost

I think I would therefore word the sentence this way…

“I feel much desiderium for the Queen since she passed.”.

Although I’m not entirely sure!

Let me know if this is a Weird Word you already knew. Maybe my vocabulary isn’t as broad as I thought!
