Welcome to another Weird Word!
Actually, welcome to the first in a series of FESTIVEšweird words!
Yes, that’s right, it’s November, the latter end, and I am 100% officially in the midst of Christmas celebrations.
What does that mean? Well, I know some people want to wait for Christmas to start, and I realise why. It’s understandable. For me though, this year has been tough, and for all of us it’s getting tougher. Finances are stretched, war happening in what is supposed to be a free world, climate crisis knocking at the door and finances stretched to within an inch of their lives. We are all finding it hard, aren’t we?
So, for me at least, that means Christmas isn’t just coming, it’s needed. The smell of cinnamon is currently hovering all around me and I have a pile of penguin decorations I’m making with my daughter right next to me. It’s not full-on Christmas onslaught immediately, but slowly I’m letting the spirit in.
As part of that, I thought I’d research some weird words related to the holiday season, and this is the start of that project.

Doniferous
The Free Dictionary and Websters Dictionary describe Doniferous as…
Bearing gifts.
So, in short, if you arrive at your parents house laden with gifts you are ‘doniferous’.
I know the man in red is doniferous every year, but it’s possible it’ll be less than usual for 2022. I’ll make sure our daughter is thankful and having fun whatever happens.
