Welcome to another Festive Weird Word.
Continuing my project to tell you all about the forgotten language of the season, today I’m focussing on the thing we wish for (without results) every single year.
Snow.
I’ve never seen a christmas with the white stuff. Wrong place wrong time I think. But that doesn’t stop me hoping it’ll come and listening to forcasters tell us the likelihood around this time of year.

Hogmadog
This is a lesser printed word, with detail about it being pretty hard to find. Still I managed a couple of reasonably trustworthy sources…
The Telegraph defines Hogmadog as…
A huge ball of snow built up by rolling a small ball of snow around a snowfield.
And Succeed With Dyslexia describes it as…
A large ball of snow made by rolling a smaller ball of snow around a field until it grows in size. Often used as the body of a snowman, or a lethally large snowball for folks you don’t like.
So, if you are building frosty and have the beginnings of his belling rolling in front of you, you have a ‘hogmadog’.
I don’t miss the frozen fingers creating a hogmadog causes, but I know my daughter will want to try anyway, the same as I did 35 years ago!
