Crap poems 25 – What’s love mummy?

Hello everyone and welcome to yet another crap poem.

I mentioned recently that I’ve noticed my poems have become a bit depressing, and while it’s an important subject for me, this site is supposed to provide support as well as truth-talk.

With all that in mind someone on social media recently asked me if I ever create artwork in response to a poem. Now, I don’t think my poems have enough depth to produce artwork, but it did get me thinking about the places I find poems and how to make them grow organically.

What’s love, mummy? Was created this way. As the title suggests, it’s a question my own kid asked me and I felt a bit stumped.

I put together a list of the silly moments love brings and it gifted me this poem. I hope you like it!

What’s love, Mummy?

When early mornings smell like guff
When belly buttons fill with fluff
When bedrooms brim with dirty washing
When lists aren’t needed for the shopping
When bad jokes force your eyes to roll
When you feel you’re free, without control
When dishes fill the kitchen sink
When years pass by in neigh a blink
When nights with friends feel very lonely
‘Cause they aren’t there, you’re not homely
When glove compartments stuff with sweets
When weeks pass without changing sheets
When morning coffee comes with kisses
When Playlists are joint playlist mixes
When you know you have a hand to hold
When their words make you feel more bold
When your worries can be heard
When they won’t think you’re absurd
When condoms pass their sell by date
When they say “you’re sexy, fuck your weight”
When bathroom doors can be left open
When mood is known with nothing spoken
You didn’t play, but still you win
Cause love makes your emotions spin
It’s so complex, and never solved
But this equation is pure gold
If you realise some of these rules
It could be love, amongst us fools
But stay on guard and be alert
Love‘s the reason for all our hurt
