Haiku hope 26 – Flimsy intentions

Hi everyone and welcome to another Haiku Hope as part of the COPE campaign.

This time I’m focussing on another BIG stress we think about at this time of the year – food. Christmas is something I talk about often, and like many of you, I look forward to the eating just as much as time with family, thoughtful gifts, festive movies and twinkly lights.

This haiku is dedicated to the flimsy intentions we have about food at this time of year. The late night, baileys-fuelled snacks that seem a great idea at the time, but form dark clouds of regret by December 31st. The truffles laced with sherry and caramel, impossible to resist but more calorific than an original New York Cronut. The third helping of Yorkshire pudding and gravy that we’re determined to squeeze in, even though our elasticated waist is already stretched to its limit. The last ‘Purple One’ that spends the entire afternoon winking at you until you snap, then fight over it with aunty Mildred, who, by 7pm, was already fully tanked up on gin and orange.

Or is it just me?

Flimsy intentions

I’m stuffed. No more food.

Diet starts January.

Pass me the biscuits.

Remember if you need more distractions then there are more jokes on my Hold Humour page, as well as haikus on Haiku Hope, awful poems on Crap Poems and odd language in Weird Words. I also have a page dedicated to stress hacks and other ideas to try if you need a distraction within the COPE campaign section of this website.

Thanks for visiting and have a bloody amazing Christmas! 🌲

  1. I think we can all relate. Have always had a big sweet tooth, eating 3/4 healthy dinner and 1/4 dessert, which is not, i think, the proper ratio. My answer to this as I’ve gotten older has been: more of the vegetables i enjoy, like sweet bell peppers, or lentils cooked in garlic and ginger; more nuts, like raw almonds which actually taste sweet; and little to no alcohol. I only managed to quit the alcohol after starting a 2 mile walking commute which saves me a lot of money and is necessary if I want to get to work. In other words, it doesn’t require the discipline that going to the gym after work would require. Also, I think it’s good to eat extra fruit cake while it’s cold and the days are short. Fruit cake counts towards my allowance of fruits and vegetables all December. : )
