Hi everyone and welcome to my 33rd Haiku Hope – part of the COPE campaign bundle of creative distractions.
This time I thought I’d write about sleeplessness, because it’s something I’ve been living with for years, and it seems to be getting worse.
I was pretty unsurprised when I read earlier this week that a human will die far sooner of lost sleep than they will of lost food. Missing grub can be maintained for weeks, whereas lost zzz’s will give you only days.
I find the quietness of night a noisy affair. Rather than reacting to twilight the way most people do – by getting cozy and relaxing – my body and brain go into free fall and I drown in the infinite darkness and space it creates for thoughts. Being mentally unstable at nighttime is as dangerous as leaving the lid off of the Ferrero Rocher – the result is inevitable.
Insomnia is a serious problem, but can be very complicated to tackle. If you or someone you know is struggling with their sleep then consider speaking to your GP. Alternatively, there are lots of helpful organisations on my get support page.
Anyway, here’s the haiku for today…

Sleep
Turn off the lamp, love.
I’m desperate for some shuteye.
Why won’t my eyes close?

Remember if you need more distractions then there are more jokes on my Hold Humour page, as well as haikus on Haiku Hope, awful poems on Crap Poems and odd language in Weird Words. I also have a page dedicated to stress hacks and other ideas to try if you need a distraction within the COPE campaign section of this website.
Thanks for visiting.
