Haiku hope 40 – Who run the world?

Welcome everyone to the fourtieth (FOURTIETH) haiku in the Haiku Hope series. This is part of my creative distractions within the COPE campaign, and a list of your own distraction ideas can be found on the stress hacks page of this website.

Although my life is obviously quite small, I feel very lucky to be able to spend time with my daughter each day, learning about her personality and hearing about everything that’s important to her. Thankfully, in recent months, she’s moved on from cartoons and imaginary stories we can’t keep up with, to something I can relate to – music!

As a result, her dad and I have been introducing her to some of the greatest songs of our own adolescence. Mr. Vein, I’m Too Sexy, Peace in the Valley, and Rappers Delight have all featured. Despite this being music I absolutely love, sometimes I want her to hear songs with more positive meaning than laughter. Songs by Alicia Keys, Adele, Beyonce and Lady Gaga all feature heavily.

Every now and then an ear worm arrives in my head as a result of all these musical lessons, and this haiku is dedicated to one such audible wriggler.

‘Who run the world (Girls)’ by Beyonce has only one key lesson to take home, and as a female it’s an important one, so I wanted my kid to hear it. She’s a child of good taste; she loved it.

I wrote this haiku as a more realistic response to some of the lyrics for a bit of fun.

Who run the world?

Who run the world? Girls!
Who are we? What do we run?
Ourselves to the ground.

Remember if you need some distractions from stress then there are more jokes on my Hold Humour page, as well as haikus on Haiku Hope, awful poems on Crap Poems and odd language in Weird Words. I also have a page dedicated to stress hacks and other ideas to try if you need a distraction within the COPE campaign section of this website.

Thanks for visiting.
